Maximising your existing operational footprint
For companies experiencing growth, it can be tempting to look at establishing an additional warehouse to cope with demand. But the capital expenditure and ongoing costs mean payback can take a long time. Instead, many e-commerce, retail, and industrial companies are looking at ways to maximise their existing operational footprint with intelligent and space-saving automation solutions, with a quick ROI.
For example, Swisslog is the world’s leading AutoStore integrator. AutoStore is a high density grid-based automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS). It provides better use of available space than any other automated system due to its unique design that enables direct stacking of bins on top of each other and storage of multiple SKUs in a single bin.
Another example is Swisslog’s PowerStore high density shuttle system for pallet warehousing, which is ideally suited to warehouses with low ceilings, fewer unique products and high throughput requirements.
Swisslog installed a PowerStore solution for leading beverage distribution specialist, BevChain (a wholly owned subsidiary of Linfox), which increased storage by around 60% within the same warehouse space.
The new 24/6 BevChain facility includes over 30,000 pallet locations, with vertical conveyors transferring pallets to and from one of five levels. It has 20 satellite AisleCarriers and RowCarriers, one in each level of the four quadrants transferring pallets to and from their location. This is all pre-determined by Swisslog’s intelligent SynQ software.
